Loe's family are poor rice farmers in Burma, from the Karen ethnic group who have been violently oppressed by the authorities for decades. Loe escaped to Mae Sot in Thailand with her mother and a brother, but they came with nothing but the clothes they stood in.

The Has Thoo Lei School provides education, food and hope to children like Loe, but is desperately underfunded, and in need of sponsors.
