The Father Ray Daycare Centre

Pattaya attracts poor migrant workers from all over Thailand. Many end up doing menial labour, such as going through rubbish looking for glass or plastic to be recycled. They live in shacks in the slums, with little or no sanitation.
Many of them bring their children with them, but do not have the time or resources to look after them properly. The parents work from early morning until late at night doing what they can to survive. Children under six, who are too young for school, are left on their own. If they are hungry there is the danger they may go off and beg, or get involved with older children living on the streets. They are also at risk from accidents, and diseases such as malaria or dengue fever.
The Daycare Centre is a nursery for these children, aged between two and six. It provides them with a safe haven during the day, where they are fed two substantial meals, have a daily shower and their medical needs are taken care of. The children enjoy activities and have lessons, but most of their time is devoted to play. Thanks to the Daycare Centre, they can enjoy their childhood in a warm and safe environment.
