Life can be tough for a child with disabilities in Thailand. Many families are too poor to afford specialist care. Children may face prejudice in their day-to-day lives outside the home. Knowing that society is hard on the disabled, families can become over-protective and may commonly prevent the child from venturing outside the home.
Three projects in Pattaya provide special care, accommodation and education for deaf children, blind children and young people with disabilities. With your support, we help them grow in confidence and achieve their goals. The work of these projects, and of their very dedicated staff, has helped change attitudes toward disability within Thai society, and has helped parents to understand that a disabled child can live a full and rewarding life.
Staff and students from the Redemptorist School for the Blind and the Vocational School for the Disabled have successfully represented their schools, state an country in national and international sporting competitions. Participation in competitive sport helps engender a positive 'can do' attitude building the confidence and determination which people with disabilites require if they are to achieve independence.
